Some peaceful province in acrostick land:
There thou may'st wings display, and altars raise,
And torture one poor word ten thousand ways.
Hamlet cries his mother's tainted.(I.L.)
Gertrude nearly falls down, faint.
Hamlet's father swears, unsaintly, he.

No one but Nancy,
And Sally got antsy

Trochee trips from long to short;
From long to long in solemn sort
Slow spondee stalks; strong foot! yet ill able
Ever to come up with Dactyl trisyllable.
Iambics march from short to long; --
With a leap and a bound the swift anapests throng;
One syllable long, with one short at each side,
Amphibrachys hastes with a stately stride; --
First and last being long, middle short, Amphimacer
Strikes his thundering hoofs like a proud high-bred Racer.

Their students mumble, stare, and doze, somewhat.

On TV just before we go to bed.
Cardinals, red and dun, Chatter when it's sunny.
To simplify, scanning has at least three steps, the first two technical, and the third aesthetic.

Auden's "Paysage Moralisé," and Donald Hall's "Hang it all, Ezra Pound, there is only one sestina." Sir Philip Sidney's "You goat-herd gods, that love the grassie mountaines" is a double sestina.

skewed parabola
that fractals on embracing
greenly arithmetic turf.
